Here’s A Thought :: Could This Be The Browser I’ve Been Waiting For?

Posted April 2nd, 2012 in Here's a Thought | No Comments

This is no joke. I’ve discovered a new browser that integrated my social media, search and saving in a beautiful way. It’s called Rockpile. And I’m a little bit in love with it.

Here’s why I think you should try this cool new browser:

1. Rockmelt loads a Facebook app every time you load your browser. This is how it stays socially connected. You can access your friends with one click, update your status and check your news feed easily from your browser window. It’s neat, organized and unobtrusive – but all right there.

2. The Twitter API allows you to add multiple Twitter accounts to your sidebar. You can access and send messages, receive direct messages, reply or retweet from your accounts via the organized sidebar.

The way that RockMelt uses Twitter and Facebook — and the way that it monitors websites for RSS updates — is pretty interesting and is relatively unobtrusive. You can make sidebars bigger or smaller, or hide them all together.” ~Mashable

3. I’m famous for having a dozen or more tabs open in my browser at any given time. Rockmelt allows me to hit a clock icon -the View it Later button – to save my link  (or image or video) for future reading. So all those open tabs of news stories I’m leaving open to view later can now be neatly captured and stored under one icon with one click. Brilliant. {I’m convinced they made this feature with me in mind}.

4. Social means sharing – and the Rockmelt Share button makes sending a website to Facebook or Twitter a snap. It works just like Pinterest’s Pin It button – simple!

5. Here’s one of the best features, in my opinion. You know how when you are working and suddenly, out of the corner of your eye, you see that someone has sent you an instant message via Facebook. You need to find your open Facebook tab and then toggle back and forth between the window you had open and your conversation? Well, no more my friends. Rockmelt can handle multiple chats directly from your open browser window. It also has a righthand sidebar which lists all your friends online.

6. As for search capability, RockMelt kills it. When you search a term in the separate search bar, a panel fills with results from your choice of search engines – Google, Bing or Yahoo. There are no search ads and your result pages are preloaded, meaning if you click on any of the search results in the panel, it instantly displays the site page. It’s fast and that makes me happy.

7. Ahhh. Hear that? Silence. In order to finish this post, I’m working in “Quiet Mode”, which on Rockmelt means simply hitting the Quiet Mode icon on the top of my window and pesto – all interruptions disappear. {I wish it worked on everything in my office – wouldn’t that be sweet?!}. It disables notifications, takes you offline from chats and hides your social media sidebars. So great.

Here’s a quick guide from Rockmelt that goes over each of its features. But, give it a try. I’m hooked! Let me know what you think.
