Moodboard Thursday :: Nautical

Posted June 9th, 2011 in Blog, Moodboard | 2 Comments

In our on-going designer’s duel, my good friend and talented graphic design colleague Lucinda Wesson of Chocolate Creative Design, settled on a nautical theme using navy Pantone 534. I love Lu’s use of the coral red tones and turquoise paired with the navy. She has such a wonderful sense of color! I paired mine with red {and a splash of yellow} going for the brighter tones with the dark navy.

The thought of summer being a mere six days away makes me dream of lazy, hot days relaxing on the water. We’re lucky to live on Long Island Sound and my husband and I relish every moment of every weekend in the summer. We pile the kids into the S.S. Graver {our tiny skiff} and pack it with sunblock, floaties, towels and snacks and head out on exploring around the Thimble Islands for that perfect swimming spot, soaking up rays and loving the sea air and mist from the ride. Ahhh, summer, here we come!

Moodboard Thursday :: Daffodil

Posted April 21st, 2011 in Blog, Inspiration, Moodboard | No Comments

Ahhh. Spring. It’s finally here. What a long winter we had! But now we can rejoice that the birds are back (even if they are waking me up at 5am) and the daffodils are blooming.

Good friend and awesome designer Lucinda Wesson of Chocolate Creative Design and I have gone head-to-head again in our moodboard showdown. Pale daffodil yellow was our inspiration. It seemed perfect for the start of spring. How did we do?

CHOCOLATE CREATIVE DESIGN ::

row one :: ducklings / macaroons / moroccan yellow doors
row two :: refurbished dresser / spring bridesmaid / table for one
row three :: spring dress / painting / chair

ELEMENTS ::

row one :: bunnies hiding eggs / paper bag bouquet
row two :: happy place poster / bows on bags / cookie cuteness
row three :: jellybean flower cups / make way for ducklings / perfect pears

Note: “Make Way for Ducklings” is a classic children’s story by Robert McCloskey first published in 1966 and makes a perfect basket gift. My mom – a born and bred Bostonian – used to read this story to me as a child and I cannot wait to share this story of a family’s resilience, love and courage with my wee ones.

Moodboard Thursday :: My Sweet Valentine

Posted February 3rd, 2011 in Blog, Moodboard | 2 Comments

Lucinda Wesson of Chocolate Creative Design and I are at it once again duking it out on the moodboard mat. This time, we used Pantone 196 and our challenge was a “My Sweet Valentine” party theme.

I need only show my board to my husband in preparation of February 14th as I’ve included all my loves – my love of chocolate, pearls, perfume, romantic films, flowers, French love songs, scented soaps and, of course, Paris. What would the moodboard to your Valentine include?

Lucinda’s board is, as usual, just beautiful. The ranges of pinks all work together and I love all the images, but especially the staircase. Could you imagine opening a door to be greeted with these sweet steps?

I think Lucinda’s won this challenge, but who gets your vote?

ELEMENTS

row one :: sweet pink bouquet; blackboard proclamations; pink ruffle cake

row two :: paris; xo bowl; sweet surrender

row three :: lace and pearls; white cupcakes

row four :: chalkboard art; beautifully wrapped soap; “bright star” movie poster

row five :: dee dee bridgewater “J’ai Deux Amours”; hazelnut chocolate brownies; chanel no. 5
