Week Of Giving :: CT Stuffs Stockings For Sandy

Many people across Connecticut, New York and New Jersey are still suffering from the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. While a lot of people have returned to business as usual, there are many people who have lost their homes to the storm and still need help – especially during the holiday season. Friend, and former Elements employee, Jamie Ramos has started a group called CT Shoreline Helps Occupy Sandy where Connecticut residents who wish donate time, supplies and money to needs of those into help Sandy victims can find information on volunteering and donating. Jamie and numerous volunteers have made trips to areas affected by Hurricane Sandy to drop off donations they have been collecting over the last few weeks. During one of her trips to Midland Beach, Staten Island she met this gentleman whose house flooded through the basement and the first floor – but he considers himself one of the lucky ones. This video shows that Sandy victims are still in desperate need and if anyone can help lend a helping hand, they absolutely should.

As the holidays approach, Jaime has shifted her focus into another phase of helping the victims of Superstorm Sandy. She is going to try and stuff 100 stockings to send to families who will be in dire need of some hope and holiday spirit.

The following is a list of donations that they are looking for – but essentially they are taking any small, appropriate items that will fit into a stocking. You can use your imagination and get creative!

  • Stockings
  • Crayons/Coloring books/Stickers
  • Socks
  • Gloves
  • Candies/Nuts/Gum/Candy Canes
  • Chapstick/Hand Lotion/Body Spray
  • Small Toys
  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste
  • Nail Polish/Files/Clippers
