This message is a quote from United We Serve, the White House blog:
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to improving the world in which he lived—and challenged the rest of us to do the same. He not only championed the equal rights but also equal access to economic opportunity for all Americans. This year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service will honor his legacy as hundreds of thousands of Americans pay tribute by serving their communities on Monday, Jan. 20.”
Today we are thinking about Martin Luther King, Jr. who inspired this nation with his words, his intelligence, his bravery, his message and his heart and thinking of ways we can serve our community.
One way I plan on helping is by supporting a very beautiful, strong, amazing young friend of mine named Anna. She was diagnosed back in October with leukemia and desperately needs a bone marrow transplant.
Her equally brave parents have organized a bone marrow drive to help us find a match. It literally take a minute to be test and save a life. Here are the details of the event: Saturday February 1 from 10-2pm at the Cedar Mill School in Wilton, CT.
I hope you will join us. And, even if you cannot make it to Wilton Saturday, you can go onto the Be The Match website. They have a national database, so even if you can’t help Anna, there may be another life you can save today.
Another way I am helping is by supporting my good friend {and previous Elements employee} Jamie Ramos who has the biggest heart of anyone I know. Jamie is always helping others and lives in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. This winter, she is asking for us to check our closets, basements and attics for coats we can donate TODAY. There are several different drop-off locations around the New Haven area. Here is the link to more information about how you can drop off your coat donation to someone who really needs it.
There is so much we can do to help our neighbors, friends and communities. I hope we can all find a way to do some good in the world today and everyday.
