Holiday :: National Walk to Work Day

Okay, true confession. I did not walk to work today.

However, I have a one of those jobs where I need to sit for long periods of time in front of my computer – which is why I need to get up and walk or run for thirty minutes everyday. So even if you aren’t able to walk to your job, the American Heart Association is encouraging us to put on our sneakers today and walk for at least 30 minutes (which we should be doing everyday). What do you do everyday to stay active?

Here are some other good ideas from the American Heart Association’s website for Walk to Work Day:

  • Employers, invite employees to wear their sneakers to work
  • Encourage your coworkers to get in their 30 minutes of walking that day.
  • Change one of your meetings to a walking meeting. I really love this idea!
  • Grab a friend – or group – at work and start using your lunch break to walk to go pick up a sandwich at least once a week. Now that weather is nearly nice here in Connecticut, I think we need to do this at Elements! What do you say, guys? Anyone up for walking to Shoreline Deli once a week?
  • Host a walk and/or rally to show your commitment to living longer, healthier lives.
  • Get the word out about your walk by first registering for our free, downloadable National Walking Day Tool Kit. It’s too late for this year, but not too late to start a company-wide event for 2015!
  • Join others across the country and be part of the solution to get America walking.
  • Discover and share more information from the American Heart Association about why physical activity is so important.
  • Rally your family, friends and neighbors to walk today – and every day.

So go forth, keep moving and be healthy!
