Well, we made it to Friday! Which means, for me, time to make my weekend list.
This time of year, it gets a little nutty. In addition to the usual list items (you know the ones – spring cleaning, laundry, food shopping, water flowers) there is all that end-of-the-school-year-stuff that comes with having two elementary school-aged kids.
It’s the official start of spring baseball, the grand finale of school concerts and plays (both my kids got the lead roles in the play this year – lots of singing and rehearsing going on at my house!), and the ultimate of all events – the BIG ballet recital (pep-rally today at 4 – that’s right, Friday at 4 – do these people know we WORK? I mean, she’s not on Broadway … yet. Geesh).
But this quote seems to be speaking directly to me. It is an excellent reminder that even with all that’s going on in my life, I need to slow it way down, forget all the usual list making stuff (there’s always next weekend!) and appreciate my full life and time with my family.
Yes, sometimes that time is sitting on a hard gymnasium floor for three hours in hot gym while my daughter’s dance school rehearses for their recital. Or, sitting on a frozen bleacher in cold spring rain for two hours cheering on my son while he pitches his first game (his father was a pitcher – could he be any more excited than I am? Well, perhaps). And sometimes it means we are all so exhausted that we have leftovers, put on our pj’s and snuggle on the sofa to watch FROZEN for the 100th time while the overflowing laundry basket sits in the corner one more day waiting to be folded.
It’s okay. These are the days that go by so fast. These are the days we don’t want to miss while standing in line at the grocery store when we could be riding our bikes. Somehow, we will manage get it all done.
I hope you slow down this weekend and also forget about “doing more” and instead, work on relaxing and soaking in some sunshine with the ones you love.
Happy Friday everyone!
