Level-up Your LinkedIn

If you own or are responsible for marketing a business, LinkedIn is the platform to be using regularly. Yet, most professionals don’t fully understand all that LinkedIn can do for their company — which is a lot more than you think!

Here are my top 5 tips to level-up your company’s LinkedIn profile:

1. Write a strategic plan for your goals and how you will reach them using LinkedIn; just as you would write a marketing plan, you should have a plan for all of your social media platforms, including LinkedIn.

2. Complete your company profile. This seems like a no-brainer, yet most company pages are incomplete; pages that are complete get 30% more weekly views, which is reason enough to take a few minutes and fill it out! In addition to your contact information, here are a few other areas you should complete:

  • Write a concise, descriptive tagline
  • Upload a high quality file of your logo as your profile image
  • Upload a high quality cover image that relates to your business
  • Complete your ‘About’ section, including your background and services / products, as well as your company’s mission
  • Include up to three relevant hashtags
  • Create a customized call-to-action button that aligns with your strategic goals and track analytics. Using this data, create a plan to follow-up via email, mailing, calling, etc.

3. Build the right following. When you send an invitation to connect, personalize it. Don’t just send the default message; add something that connects you. Are you in the same group? Did you attended the same school? Do you have a mutual contact? Put some thought into each contact to build a solid following to help you grow.

4. Did you know that you can download all of your LinkedIn connections? You do this from your personal profile, but you can certainly use your professional contacts from this list to upload to your CRM or invite them to follow your company page. Check out these instructions for how to export your connections.

5. Upgrade to a premium account — it’s worth it! The two biggest reasons are for LinkedIn Learning (giving you access to thousands of online business topics) and for building a high quality network. It pays for itself.
